2024 FIA Formula 3 World Champion Leonardo Fornaroli will step up to F2 next season with Invicta Racing, the Italian being the first driver to be announced ahead of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 campaign.
The team have also confirmed that Fornaroli will be participating in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi later this year as part of his preparation for the upcoming season at Yas Marina Circuit on December 11-13.
The Italian drivers recent triumph arrived through his exceptional consistency rather than race winning form, achieving seven podium finishes, two pole positions and two fastest laps and finishing in points scoring positions in 18 out of 20 races. He clinched the title in Monza in dramatic fashion, passing Christian Mansell for third at the final corner on the last lap of the race.
Fornaroli’s move to Invicta ends a three-year relationship with Trident, with whom he competed in the 2022 Formula Regional European series and both F3 campaigns.
”I’m so happy to be able to celebrate winning the F3 Championship with this news and I cannot wait to step up to Formula 2 next season,” Fornaroli said.
“Invicta Racing has proven itself over many years to be one of the best teams in Formula 2, including this season. I’m really excited to work with the team for the 2025 season. I want to take this opportunity to thank Trident for the past three years, they really are the best team in F3. To go from the best team in F3 to the best team in F2 is truly a dream come true.”
Invicta Racing’s team principal spoke on the move. “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Leonardo to the team for 2025. Winning the FIA Formula 3 Championship is an incredible achievement for him and I have no doubt that he’ll do a brilliant job in 2025. We’ve followed Leonardo’s single-seater career for a few years now and it’s clear that he’s an incredible talent.”
“Following in the footsteps of Gabriel this year, we’re thrilled to have the FIA Formula 3 Champion join our team for the second year in a row.”
